Mr. Nemati's personal collection of antique textiles includes centuries-old masterpieces in silk and metallic threads from the 17th to 19th century, including shawls of the quality of those featured in his landmark book, Shawls of the East: From Kerman to Kashmir (PDN Publications, New York, 2003, 332 pages).

Persian Safavid Period Silk Brocade

This Persian Safavid Dynasty period silk brocade panel dates from the 17th to 18th century and features the designs of perched song birds among flowering branches on a brilliant red ground, with stylized border of flowers and foliage.
Persian Wool Brocade Fragment
19th Century

This small fragment has been edged with a band of tapestry-twill woven cloth and finished with a narrower band of embroidered metallic foil and thread. This tyle of reusing shawl cloth was very popular in Iran and Turkey from the late 19th to early 20th century. Technique: 2x2 tapestry-twill double interlocked at each color joining. Warp: woold, orange, 124 per inch. Weft: 80 per inch.

Persian Safavid Period Silk Panel

This Safavid Dynasty period silk brocade panel dates from the 17th to 18th century and features the repeating motif of exotic birds perched on flowering branches on a red ground, an elegant golden border of flowering vines, and outer sewn edge with alternating multi-colored boarder on neutral ground.

This beautiful 18th (possibly 17th) century silk fragment includes two joined panels depicting an exotic bird perched on a flowering branch with butterfly in flight and animal below, in a virtual mirror image, with later sewn border.

This 17th century silk shawl from Kerman features very dense and highly detailed repeating patterns of arranged flower heads and flowering vines. It is in remarkable condition for its age.

This 18th (possibly 17th) century brocade panel in silk with metallic thread features the repeating and stylized depiction of a king's and deer, with an Arabic name beneath the crown that may read "Abdul". Excellent condition.

This splendid silk and velvet panel with repeating pattern of stylized rosettes and crowns in red velvet and gold thread with sewn border of flowering vines dates from the 19th century, and is in good condition.
